With so many dresses and formal evening gowns available while shopping, it can be hard to differentiate between the types of gowns and also hard to differentiate about which gown should be worn at which time to which types of events. Formal evening gowns are often long, at least below the knee or cocktail length and many are even floor length designs which have an elaborate way of entering the room where the function is being held. Charity events often include a dinner and dance and require formal attire as tickets can cost upwards of several hundred dollars for individuals to attend the fancy parties. These events are often formal, as which can be indicated on the invitation that is being used to gain admission into the event.

Formal evening gowns should be worn to black tie affairs, including weddings which request that the formal attire be worn to the wedding reception and perhaps the ceremony. Throughout the wedding celebration there are some brides that choose to have a formal event.  This information will also be indicated on the invitation of the bride and groom.
